What Does Broken Vessels Have in Common With Opening Day?

Today I watched Tiger fans head toward Comerica Park for Opening Day. Every jersey, cap and banner reminded me of a chapter in Broken Vessels that talks about spring in Detroit. In honor of today's win, I'm sharing a short blurb. Go Tigers and come on spring!

"Dense winter skies and snowcapped pine trees withdrew, making room for sprouting tulips and green tree limbs that emerged from deadened bark. Chirping birds returned from travels south. People rushed to corner car washes to cleanse salt and dirt from their vehicles. Tigers fans emerged on the  downtown streets, clad in navy blue and orange. Self-proclaimed gardeners geared up for Eastern Market’s annual Flower Day, hoping for bragging rights on great deals for flats of their favorite blossoms. Spring was shaking Detroit awake."
